I scooped up this perfect summer skirt last week.
Technically it was free because I traded in clothes, but was marked as $4.
Sweet deal.

Navy/tan combo and stripe style reminds me of stuff from The Gap & Target in the early 90s.

Cotton On appears to be an Austrailian company and VERY reasonably priced.
There are a few shops in malls around Dallas, says their site.
May have to venture into the far reaches of North Dallas to check it out.

In Texas, if you aren’t wearing natural fibers June through September, you are sweating your ass off.
A comfy cotton skirt is a sure thing.
I’m really into the ease and style of this one.
Even put it on again the next morning :

This skirt will go with anything.

Last night I attended an event benefitting Attitudes & Attire at the Hotel Palomar (home of my beloved Exhale yoga).

I’d actually volunteered a day at the Attitudes & Attire space when I worked at Neiman’s.
The non-profit helps women with wardrobe, self-esteem & job interview skills
to aid them in re-entering the workforce after an absence.
I donated a few handbags and bought 5 raffle tickets.
My number was pulled to win these Lionette “Greenwich” earrings!

And little bugle belt?

The earrings actually work with the outfit.
Though I’m not much of an accessory wear-er, I like these.
They really can jazz up a simple outfit like a t-shirt and skinny pants.
Lucky me! It’s always a thrill to win something.

I’ve had a knack with such luck in my life.
Several times in high school I won concert tickets off the radio.
And when I was working on Freaky Friday on the Disney lot, I guessed closest to the correct number of coins in a treasure chest in the commissary to win $1000.
Maybe I should play the lottery now and again, eh?

This is another toss off from Randi’s closet.

But it fit perfectly and, as it turns out, a brimmed hat comes in handy.

This SCREAMING hot pink tee yelled at me from the rack.
A nice lightweight, comfy fabric blend.

Figured I could attempt a restructure similar to one of my favorite tanks.
I won’t go into too much detail, but basically used the grey MTV tank someone else restructured as a guide.

Cut this one to size, so it wouldn’t have the tie-it-up issue the grey one has.

Seriously into how it turned out.
No…seriously.

In case you forgot, mother’s day is Sunday.
Do something nice for your mother.

Thrifted on a day yellow tags were half off.
A simple basic throw on for summer.
I wouldn’t have paid $7, though, just so you know.
;)

The outside of my house is being scraped and buffed for repainting right now.
Not so into the mess that process is making, but a fresh exterior will be nice.
Should get some nice texture shots out of it, too. Oooh, “edgy.”
Also, please notice the little rooster topping off the fence post up there “Cox Fence.”

A fun week.
I’m really enjoying Dallas and the people I’m spending time with this spring.

• Trying on a dress at Buffalo Exchange (I got it).
• New Works festival at Nouveau 47 Theater.
• Lunch and margaritas at Primo’s on Lake Ray Hubbard.
• A friend’s hammock. Very big and comfy. Gorgeous, warm, breezy day.
• Monster Truck (eye roll). An attention getter, for sure!
• My friend Jon speaking on his sculpture I’ve been “art-sitting” for years.
• Breakfast.
• The nursery. Such color!
• Happy Hour at The Grape. Chef Luscher greets visitors. Best happy hour in town.
1/2 price wine (I like the Oregon Pinot Gris) and really tasty small bites.
I always share: calamari, mussels and frites.
• The rooftop at Terilli’s. Very cozy and classy.

This was a high-priced Buffalo Exchange purchase for me.
Thirty bucks isn’t much for a pretty dress, but more than I generally spend on resale.
Buffalo carries a small amount of new, small designer merchandise (items with blue tags).
I don’t buy much of their new merch, but liked this one in the dressing room.
Not super into it now, though.
The cut of the top is boring and not really flattering. And after one wear, the pleats started falling out.
Changing my mind & quality is why I usually buy stuff with better fabric & construction, used, for less money.
This dress will be just fine for wearing around the house.
An easy toss on.

The last of the Marfa pics.
I have wanted to trip with a big group of friends like this my whole life.
Creatives, engineers, yogis, cocktail makers, chefs, pinata smashers and all around nice people.
Experiences like these are what life’s all about for me.
More! More! More!

Some of the dudes. And a lady.

Weijia cooked us an incredible meal Friday night at El Cosmico’s outdoor kitchen.
Pulled pork. Slaw (with apples!). Mustard and ketchup vinegars. S’mores cheesecake.

Kevin and Lydia brought extra spicy pepper vodka they marinated for a very, very long time.
Which we used in bloody mary’s at their Saturday morning tostada feast.
And another group cooked our Saturday supper.
We ate it all up.

My contribution to the weekend was a gin / jalapeño / cucumber / lime cocktail.
Cut to an empty liter of gin (in your head, cause I don’t have a pic**).

**UPDATE! Weijia got a shot of my cocktail. With natural sun sparkles. Haha.

On Friday, I had to sit in the lodge for a bunch of the day doing work.
But! Was lucky to puppysit this tiny doll, making the work part much more tolerable.

On Saturday night, our friend Scott DJ’ed at Planet Marfa.
A really neat bar.
And across the street was the Museum of Electronic Wonders and Late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour.
Old tvs with video installations and, yes, grilled cheese!

Oh, and friends…the stars at night! are big and bright!

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS.
What a cool trip.

As much as I like to rotate items in my closet, some stay until completely worn out.

This golden dress, a Buffalo buy, repeatedly negotiates to keep its place and I’m glad for that.

I think the last time it was blogged was waaaaay back on the Mötley Crüe project.

The jacket is another one I can’t get rid of.
It has some naturally occurring rips and added safety pins in lieu of lost buttons.
I have bought a few similar jackets in replacement attempts.
But guess what?
It’s not replaceable!
I got it at H&M or Top Shop in London or Amsterdam years ago.
Perfect light weight layer & a nice grey/purple that seems to compliment everything in my closet.
So, they stay.
And we all live happily ever after.

prada marfa

What a wonderful weekend!
I’ve so many fun tales and neat pics from the desert of Marfa to share.
Will roll them out this week in a few separate posts.
There were teepees, trailers, outdoor dinners, hammocks, a sky of stars, puppies & many cocktails.

First, check out Prada Marfa.

Not a real store, but a 2005 art installation with 2005 Prada merch inside*.
The structure is sealed in bullet proof glass on an empty highway about a half hour west of Marfa.
Really cool.
And the lack of sound - complete silence - was something I had never experienced outdoors, ever.
Save for one or two vehicles that passed, there are no humans out here.
No distant humming of machinery/generators, no traffic, not even rustling of leaves or flowing water.
Silence.

This is a shot someone else took at dawn or dusk when the lights are on.

*I was told that 3 days after the installation originally opened, it was broken into and all the merch was stolen. I guess they switched to bullet proof glass after that and one of the guys in our group said he’d read that when they restocked the installation, the purses’ bottoms were removed, to make them unappealing to thieves. There were a few bullet holes in the awning and glass when we were there and some covered up graffiti. So, I guess they maintain it somewhat regularly rather than let it get trashed “naturally” living out there all by itself. Definitely something to see!

I’m in Marfa, TX for the weekend.
Staying in this sweet little pink trailer with my friend Lauren.

Vintage all the way.

This is my first Marfa trip and I love the vibe.
Less Texan, more New Mexican.

A bunch of friends are here for the weekend to pre-celebrate an upcoming wedding.
We all drove from various East Texas cities yesterday.

I’ve been rolling the Marc pants up a little high-water-y.
These pants, like all the fancy pants I bought when working at NM, are a little big now.
Have gone from perfect fit to slouchy.
NOT the worst problem to have.

Restructured vintage MTV Spring Break tee from Buffalo Exchange (I tied back).

Let’s see…what else…
Really, actually (no, REALLY really) quit my “bad habit,” if you know what I mean.
Coincidentally met a good habit (potentially) for an easy transition.
Heading to Marfa this weekend with a big group for a pre-wedding bash in the artsy desert.
We are taking over El Cosmico.
Each airstream trailer will have a signature drink.
Mine involves gin and jalapeno.
