romper season is upon us
Not to put this romper on a pedestal, but… An H&M Athens purchase. The colors are electric, as you can see. Sexy back. Ruffles. Pockets! The only downside is it’s polyester. Which can get a li’l warm in the summer weather. Can you imagine if this was silk or cotton? omg. the Elephant Pedestal

the twitter
A couple years ago I tried (and failed) to get into it. But last week I jumped back into the twittersphere. LOVING it. Finding so many cool new things. The design and functions are easy and purposeful. Would love to see you there, if you are into that kind of thing : COMING UP NEXT WEEK : Apparel purchased on my trip. We’ve got some H&M, some vintage and a dress...

the last night
The last night on the island I got to go to Toni’s family house and eat a dinner rife with local, homemade fare. Goat (sort of like less rich brisket - yum!). Mountain Greens. Greek Moonshine! Uncle George conversation in Greek (translated to me) : “How long is she staying?” “Leaving tomorrow” “Oh no! She’s too pale. She should stay two...

gotta do it
You’re there. It’s the nearest ancient destination. Neat to experience, of course. But something takes the magic away. A touristo nightmare!! “Snap Snap” “Group 21!” “kids hollering” etc. Still cool, though. Btw, this outfit is 100% resale! The purse has been dying a slow death. I left it in a garbage can at my last hotel in Athens....

grecian pantaloons
I got this silly one-piece in a touristy area. Not quite a skirt, not quite a romper. Pantaloons, baby!! Good for lazing around a Greek Island (as shown) or, say…Dallas, Texas. As you can imagine, hanging out on an Island with Toni & her husband is pretty much an ideal vacation. I had the best time. The vast Mediterranean right outside the window… Cobblestone...

gather round for the slideshow
Zakynthos. I went out to the car to retrieve my camera from the glovebox. Moon was aglow over the water (as shown). Amazing. “I take my coffee on the balcony.” The Greek Mediterranean. Have you ever seen a more interesting house key? But wait, there’s much more! See you tomorrow.

STFU, PARENTS
“B.” is the Brooklyn-based writer of hilarious STFU, Parents. Facebook captures are sent her way from all over the world exhibiting parent overshare and FAILS. Her wry commentary never ceases to give me laugh. Coined terms like “mombie,” “mommy-jacking” and “whoa is mom” have become regular categories of posts on her site. And don’t make me...

THE TRAD
TinTin writes a witty, sarcastic, nostalgic blog mostly focused on men’s tradition in dressing, drinking and being. I’ve been a fan of his blog, The Trad, for a while now. Below is a guest post he wrote & photographed especially for Those Tricks. What a treat! - Stephanie Family Jewels Vintage Clothing A couple blocks east of the Hotel Chelsea on the south side of the...

a new accessory
Meet House. He’s Dean’s dog. Works well with all-black outfits. Jack, Petal to the Metal, and House have been “working” on their relationship. It’s coming along. Leisurely, early morning and evening weekend walks with House are quite enjoyable. When it’s very empty and quiet in Deep Ellum. I’m off to Greece this afternoon. I’ve queued up...

aloha
Yes - that says “sleepwear” on the tag. A house dress, if you will… Another dress from the 5 dresses/$15 batch (during a 50% off apparel sale). I couldn’t resist the colors and floral print. Perfect to pair with this super fantastic purse I thrifted for $5.50 Not only is it a dead on impression of 70s roll up blinds, it is lightweight and folds out flat....

I tried to get rid of this purse. Several times. It lingered. Thankfully. Every piece of this outfit is second-hand : 100% Resale!

atelier...japan? china? other?
Blouse thrifted for $1.99. Anyone know what that symbol translates to? Does it just read “atelier,” perhaps? Wearing with the paper bag-waisted skirt from Beacon’s Closet. Know why I haven’t worn this skirt again for so long? Ironing. More specifically : lack of an ironing board. That problem has been remedied.

the reveal
Ah yes - the rest of the red dress! BEFORE : That teeny belt (in the previous post, I have it belted as wide as possible) came with this long, baggy dress (front pinned up). And I’d already removed the shoulder pads when I took these shots… I New-Dress-A-Day-ed it. Chopped off the bottom (left edge raw). Took in the top a few times until acceptable. Removed strip of...
