bathing beauty romper
Get ready for Steph’s SUMMER OF THE ROMPER Memorial Day brings us Romper #1 Twenty One** via Buffalo Exchange/Dallas for $12.00. This is a solid piece of clothing. Medium-weight linen with pockets and a built in support system in the bust like I’ve never actually experienced before. The straps are attached by buttons, so they can be worn traditional front to back, crisscrossed...

surfin' USA
WEEKEND WEAR! Having lived in L.A. for 7 years, I’m generally a sucker for surf/beach wear. Which is what most people don for all occasions at all times in Southern Cali. I picked up this l’il Roxy dress at a surf shop in Seal Beach. It’s a great throw-on, for sure. But is definitely cashz (hmmm how does one spell cashz…like “casual” with a foreign...

the last of the crue influence
This is the last one…from the day of the party, which was Monday. I had to wake up and get everything together, get to a wig shop right when they opened, then work from 10-3, and pick up Tara right after to drive to the Gaylord Texan to costume the fellas and pop into the party after. So, needed a flexible outfit that would work for it all! This is what I went with : The...

i'm on my wa-ay-ay
The Motley fashion recap continues… While picking up a few vests for the boys, I found this one for me! Only $1.50 at Goodwill, it was a keeper. Still had the NY & Company tag on it for $34.95. At first, I was disappointed with the decorative fake pockets, even though there was awesomely two on one side and one on the other. Then I realized - they just hadn’t been bust...

if nikki sixx jumped off a cliff, would you?
Yes, yes - we are all influenced by what we’re exposed to… The past week I have been in Motley mode. For example, I wore this to fit a couple of the guys : I got the blue mesh cotton top for $10 or so at F21 while shopping for The Crue. It fit the time and mood. And was sooo on sale - who could resist!

peace. silence. noise. etc.
I grabbed this Silence + Noise dress at Buffalo last week for $11. At first I was just gonna rock it as is, but felt a little too….exposed. It’s just not hot enough for that yet. So, I switched it up to more coverage. Very soft and I love the Dove pattern on the fabric. But I don’t like how the pattern doesn’t even try to match up at the seams. Too bad. Still for...

we didn't start the fire...it was always burning
WEEKEND WEAR! This is what I wore out last Saturday shopping Shopping SHOPPING for the Motley Crue project. I’ve so enjoyed working on the costumes! Before & After photos to come this week… Recently purchased from Buffalo Exchange for $11.00, this OBEY T-shirt is my favorite kind - comfy sizing, very soft, grey heather. And has a Martha Cooper photo on the front : ...

the temptress de la rue
Man…though I buy sparingly, I love looking at Rue La La every day. Two days ago, a great Zobha yoga top from the Rue that was $20 in stead of $50 arrived at my door. woohoo. If I still lived in NYC, I would totally jump on one of the ZAGAT deals they have today. Discounted fancy dinners and hanging out with a top chef while they cook. drooooool. If you aren’t a member and want...

show your feathers
The design on this lux dress makes me think of spread peacock feathers. I am so used to seeing single peacock feathers around, I forget the bird’s majesty, but dang… when you really see these birds, they are just so incredible! Show us your feathers! Also, when I was googling, I came across this badass chair from Interactive Spaces : When you sit down, the feathers open...

hello sailor
When I end up wearing this navy Gap dress I purchased from Buffalo Exchange/Dallas, I think, “Why don’t I wear this more?” It’s a solid dress. Wonderful weight for spring and summer. And I very much like navy! I believe the reason is lack of hanger appeal. Thanks a lot, hanger. Navy dress, I heart you! BCBG heels from Buffalo/Dallas, necklace and bag thrifted....

yes to green
I got this sweet little top at Buffalo Exchange/Dallas for $14.50. Debated in the dressing room, I am so glad I took it home. A very vintage feel. Also makes me feel kinda light, fresh and energetic! Belt is a .99 thrift, pants are from Buffalo/LBC and heels are Payless.

ladies love it
Every time I wear this Thakoon for Target dress, a woman stops me to ask about it. I bought it at Buffalo Exchange/LBC. Wanting to style it differently than I had before, a few belt/shoe combos were tried. “eh.” next. “boring.” next. “not adding to the already neat-o garment.” next. Then, bingo! My california hippie belt (Buffalo Exchange/LA), paired...

little critters
Happy Sunday. Let’s discuss thrift art! Generally, even in thrift stores that have already done the thrifting for you, the “art” is, well, let’s call it dusty grandparent, garage sale art. Er. You know…amateur paintings, country decor, character paintings on wood, etc. Not a fan. However! I AM a fan of steph-style art I happen upon when thrifting. I currently...

super rad side project
This week I was hired to turn 4 executives into this : for an 1800-person 80s costume party. Dreamy fun project!! I only have a week and a half, so have been hitting it hard. Between thrifts, vintage & costume places, craigslist, tween mall stores and Michael’s, I’ve almost got everything I need to construct, re-construct, Bedazzle (yes, I bought a bedazzler for this...

chivalry isn't dead...
…you just have to wear the right dress. When I bought this 90s(?) Ann Taylor sheath at the thrift store for $4.00, I thought of it as just a simple, plain work dress. In fact, I almost didn’t get it! And it wasn’t perfect - I took in a bit of gaping under the arms. (Isn’t it nice that the pattern matches up? Luckily, my ghetto seam didn’t disrupt) Well well...

move over cricketeer
Yeah, so, my fave thrifted blazer has a new friend. This vintage Grodins California blazer was thrifted for a mere $1.25!! Lovely lined pockets. Great 70s buttons. The blue in the wool! Make some room, Cricketeer. There’s a new guy in town. Luckily Mother’s Day was a bit chilly (what the?! It’s May in Texas!), so I got to wear this jacket a week after buying it....

the real star
Old Navy sweater halter thrifted for $2.98. Betsey Johnson skirt was purchased when I lived in nyc, circa 1998. The skirt is pretty sheer and instead of a slip, I opted for really thin leggings. Alternative Apparel leggings (still had tags) and heels thrifted. Belt and bag from Buff. This all black ensemble was put together to showcase the real star of the show… Tiny bits of...

REALLY IMPORTANT read for all fashion bloggers →
The link above jumps to an article I linked to from PR COUTURE about huge companies like Payless having free reign to purchase images from sites like Chictopia and Lookbook. The blogger who posted the shots gets nothing, while the corporation and social website benefit financially. If you post your images on social sites, the fine print signs away all your ownership. A really important read for...

the password is...
Spent Friday night with Nadine & David, several glasses of wine, 3 cats, 2 dogs, 1 chicken and a fire pit. GAME NIGHT! My contribution was PASSWORD. I’ve been dying to play this 1962 classic board game, which I thrifted for a buck or two. Oh! There are just so many neat things about this 50-year-old, Milton Bradley game. #1 The instructions are printed ON the materials, so...

golden snake
I woke up late and threw this outfit together hastily. Knowing I wanted to wear this $.99 thrifted vintage belt, but also feeling a pants day, the belt went where a belt doesn’t naturally belong. I wasn’t super jazzed, but it worked out okay. Golden belt and shoes (BCBG) spark up an otherwise casual ensemble, I suppose. All items from various Buffalo Exchanges, except the...

don't add water
don’t add water! Above J Crew slacks thrifted for $8. I rarely do this - but they were a leeetle tight and I bought them anyway. doh. You see, they feeeeel so good. Except in the tightish upper front thigh section. But even so - oh, the lining and movement of fabric. Stop! sigh. If Buffalo Exchange won’t have them, E-Dogg or LGray just might be interested…

belt it out
My belt collection is rapidly growing. They are always only a dollar or two at thrift shops. And personalize an outfit so cheaply and easily! This recent Goodwill $1.99 grab has a Grandpa/Gucci thing going : The tube top, Lela Rose flats, David Bitton jeans via Rue La La, we’ve already discussed. Skies were threateningly gray, so had to take along my rain hat, just in case!

how does your garden grow?
This sweet spring dress was recently pulled outta the box when I switched out the ol’ closet from winter to summer. It was purchased at Buffalo/Dallas a summer or two ago. Great spring colors, very soft and that sorta hippie-eqsue cotton. HOWEVER! Looking at it freshly, I am not into the “just for looks” non-drawstring string and non-buttoning buttons. So, I snipped...

osh skosh oh gosh
On the weekends, from now on, I’m gonna post just once with a “weekend” theme. This week, we get a laundry outfit! By laundry outfit, I mean, I spent alllllll last Saturday doing 8 loads of laundry. The pants for the job? Vintage mens Levi’s thrifted for $.99! With a “skosh” more comfort and a bit of stretch, they fit my female curves cozily. And are...
