tee shirt trick
Often, when presented with a souvenir-type shirt, I get a men’s LARGE or X-LARGE, then alter it to fit.
That way, the sleeves and bodice are longer than the average tee, making it more interesting.
On this one I also scooped the neck and am wearing it “backwards” today.
I’m not really one for measuring, er, so I generally just put the original tee on inside-out,...

Modern Ruin

2. WaMu dies.
3. Chase doesn’t want to use building.
4. Never used multi-million dollar structure demolished this week. Christina Rees and Thomas Feulmer curated a 15-artist exhibition entitled MODERN RUIN in the space last weekend (the building’s last standing). Some of the artists used materials that were left in the structure...

$2.99 ode to grunge
You could spend $40 on a grunge revival top at Urban Outfitters, but that’s not really so grunge now, is it?
Though not flannel, this vintage Calvin Klein plaid does the trick
Thrifted for $2.99.
Love the soft cotton, colors, curved hem and hidden button front.
Before you get up in arms about too-short-a-top with leggings, know these are the legging-like pants i got in the LBC....

Wingnuts Furious
This cracks me up.
Do people REALLY have nothing better to complain about?
My friend Brandon pointed me in the direction of this post from Wonkette :
Apparently the Obama photo and accompanying text made the “wingnut” email rounds. um………..

you know how when...
…you go to thin out your closet,
and have to try on the rejects (generally things-that-rarely-get-picked for wear) to be sure?
Then you’re all, “hold the ebay! I can wear this today.”
Really only suitable for padding around the house,
this dress makes me think of Love Story, for some reason.
A film that contains one of my all time favorite music & sound weavings....

Lifted from BBC :
Ants change the size of their feet to help them lift An amazing image of an ant hanging upside down on a glass-like surface lifting 100 times its body weight weight in its jaws was taken by zoology specialist Dr Thomas Endlein of Cambridge University as he researched insects’ sticky feet.
The research shows how ants change the size and shape of the pads on their...

I wonder when my thrift urge will slow down.
I’ve been spending an average of about $10/week.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure and all.
Sunday night, in my building, 3 good lookin’ rugs were left out for trash.
The residents moved out and just left them.
They were big and I was too tired to haul them to my place at midnight (would have put them on CL for dirt...

Something happens when directors get too caught up in the process.
That something is loss of story.

opposite of leggings
True, I’ve been enjoying the leggings & cigarette-pants thing.
Today we’re going Wide Leg.
I got these dark navy Gap “Limited Edition” (oxymoron?!) pants at Buffalo LBC ($16).
The length makes them perfect high heel territory.
Very comfy and I love the pockets :
The sweater was a LBC thrift ($2).
You may have noticed I have a thing for these vintage...

Dang. These are the coolest casual guy shoes I’ve ever seen.
Came across the designer, Kris Van Assche on Upscale Hype.
He is currently the artistic director for Dior Homme.
I sure hope he makes some ladies boots.
And that I find those boots in a resale shop.
In my size.

not quite a connection, but close!
Yesterday I was in 70 degrees, today it’s back to 40.
Opted to sport this French Connection wool suit jacket.
It is the top half of a suit I thrifted for about $10.00.
I love the fabric, collar and shoulders:
However, the sloppily placed pockets and plain sleeve cuffs (I rolled them up),
show its mass-manufactured true colors:
Nonetheless, a good thrifted layer for the temperature!...

dealin' on the west coast
My flight managed to get outta the snow and I made it to LBC :
On the quest to set up his new place, my brother and I hit up many thrifts Friday.
Of course, I had to browse through the clothes, too.
And a trip to Buffalo is a must.
We cleaned out his closet and I took the rejects in for $47 in trade.
flowy Gap dress w. pockets ($6 thrift) & F21 jacket/top ($16 b.e.)

Sitting in the airport waiting for my plane to be de-iced.
In about 5 hours I will be here :
helping my brother outfit his newly rented house in Long Beach.
craigslist, thrifting, etc.

the rasterbator
Last night, my brother and I threw a surprise 70th birthday party for our dad.
He was surprised!
In honor of the occasion,
I installed a large, rasterized picture of my dad (as a lad) on a wall.
It was fun to put together and a neat thing to display for the party.

backwardz
I’ve taken to wearing scoop neck T’s backwards lately.
A symptom of wearing higher waists.
Love this Matrushka skirt, which I’ve had forever.
Matrushka started as a teeny tiny shop next to a breakfast joint I frequented in Silverlake.
They sold their handmade/silkscreened one off pieces at rock bottom prices (like $20).
As their customer base grew, they moved to a bigger...

I’m reading a very entertaining book by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos called SOUND BITES
Before his band broke, he worked in kitchens, so he’s a total foodie.
(Marry Me, Alex!)
Funny little stories of eating on the road.
Speaking of reading, check out Starlet Showcase’s post Reading is Sexy.
Love that blog.
Great photos.

Lela i love thee
When I went to Payless to check out the Christian Siriano shoes…
I got terribly distracted by a pair of Lela Rose heels.
That flip bow! oh how it manages to be delicate and edgy.
A non-slip sole. oooh.
Darkest dark navy bow and heel in a tough satin.
Intermittent fabric detail that makes you touch.
Then I saw the black flats.
Next in my eye line came the scribble flats. Buy...

so i had this dream...
After marathoning Project Runway 4 last year,
I had a dream about dating the winner, Christian Siriano.
In my dream he was straight, calm, super cool and still a designer.
Ha. That combo likely does not exist in real life.
Anyhoo. He has designed a neat shoe for Payless!
$35, luxe printed satin.
I’m gonna stop by today and check them out.
They look pretty, as Christian would say,...
